Use save game from another player in PS3 version
Hi there
Is there a way to use another player's save game in my Resident Evil version 2.0 for PS3?
I've played the game but now i've lost my save (my brother deleted it) and a friend of mine sent me his save, but when i start the game it tells me that i cannot use another players save.
Is there a way to bypass this check?
Thank's!

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
It can't be done. Sorry. Smack your brother for me. You'd have to back up your ENTIRE hard drive to ANOTHER hard drive to move a protected save.
So, if you ever wanted to upgrade your PS3 hard drive, you'd need TWO new hard drives, one to back up your current hard drive to (in order to transport your protected saves) and one to install and copy the backed up drive back onto just to be able to transfer your protected saves.
Protected saves are the worst idea evAr. Yah, it helps curb cheating, but it's a huge pain in the ***.
Fortunately, 95% of the developers understand this. Capcom and EA (to name a couple of the worst offenders) don't seem to get it, though.

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
How is this save file copy protection working?
It's insane that you need two new hard drives in order to upgrade. Are you sure? Can't you just back up your old hard drive to the one new one?

Positive. I did it. I copied my non-protected saves and photos and stuff and lost everything else. Had to re-download all my stuff from PSN all over again, too. Backing everything up to the new hard drive doesn't work, because as soon as you install it and boot up the system, it reformats whatever's in there.

Most games are fine; there are only a handful of devs that didn't get the memo...

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
Theroretically, he'd have to backup his entire PS3, then write the entire thing to the hard drive on your PS3. In doing so, you'd lose everything (and I imagine it'd wreak havoc with your PSN access) and your PS3 would be a carbon copy of his.

What happens if you take a different approach?
-Remove the old hard drive and install the new hard drive.
-When the new hard drive has been formatted, you copy the old data to the new drive.
-This only involves the old hard drive plus one new drive.
At which step will it fail and do you know why?

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
I don't think it's that simple. From what I understand, the hard drive backup is a special file. Connecting your old hard drive to your newly formatted hard drive is akin to having your buddy bring his PS3 over and running a USB cable between the two... Not a whole lotwould happen.
I've never actually restored a backed-up system, but I read up on it before I swapped hard drives (my old 60 gig was completely full.) From my understanding, when restoring a backed up system, the PS3 goes looking for the specific "backup" file.
IMO, it's needlessly complicated...

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
Lots of sites post protected saves (Re5, Tekken 5, etc...) like other people can use them. I don't know why they bother, but I assure you that you cannot. Your system will be unable to load them when you start the game. It will tell you that something is wrong with the file.

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
Could it be that they offer some hack with the files? It must work for someone, or they shouldn't offer the files. Offering something that doesn't work is asking for problems and I don't think they want it.

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
No hack. I think the people don't realize that the save is useless to the rest of the planet. There's no hack, the save is no good on any console other than the one it was created on...

Somtimes, having a PS3 can be quite annoying.

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
^ Truth. It's a great console. Sometimes, I think it's too great for it's own good. Too powerful, too complicated, too difficult to develop for, too expensive to develop for, too anxious to time travel to 1999 and too hard to upgrade your frikkin' hard drives.
I'm still a Playstation fanboy, though.

Are they doing it to the PS3 version only? I didn't hear anybody mention other platforms.

Re: Use save game from another player in PS3 version
^ I'm not sure if it happens on the xbox, I've never upgraded the hard drive; I'm no where near capacity and I've got more 360 games than I do PS3 games...
From what I understand, though, there's some kind of transfer kit that will allow you to transfer the info directly from the old drive to the new one. I don't konw the details, though.
